Emancipating much? A girl threw the varmala (garlands) away and refused to marry the groom on being asked to dance on an item song. A great fête turned into a nightmare in a matter of hours. The incident took place in Firozabad district of Agra in a banquet hall.
According to the reports, the kith and kin of bridegroom wanted both of them to dance on a popular Bollywood item song. The girl wasn’t comfortable in doing the same, to which she politely denied the request.
According to Shashikant Sharma, station in-charge of Uttar police station, “When the friends of the groom demanded that the couple to dance on a popular Bollywood item number, but the bride refused. So they took the groom to the dance floor, but later the groom came back to the bride and forced her to dance with him”
Apparently, bride’s uncle tried to intervene when he saw his niece being pressurized but the scuffle took another turn when her uncle was slapped. Felt disgraced and humiliated by the groom’s behavior, she decided to call off the wedding and asked the baraat to leave.
Her family showed courage and supported her decision. They immediately asked the groom and his family to leave the venue and call off the wedding.
“She received complete support from her parents,” the station officer said.
The matter turned much violent, as groom was unhappy with the girl decision, which leads to a fight between both of the families. Following which police was called and six people were detained along with the groom and his father. But they didn’t receive any written complaint from the bride’s family so all the men were later released.
The groom hails from Durgnagar area of Rashulpur in Firozabad, while the girl’s family belongs to Medu of Hathras district.
