In a shocking incident, a 14-year-old girl sustained serious injuries on her head and shoulder after she jumped off a moving bus in Kheralu, Mehsana to avoid sexual assault. The incident took place while the bus was on its way to Vadnagar from Hadol.
According to police, the girl boarded the Halol-Vadnagar bus run by GSRTC from her village Patiya in Kheralu, Mehsana, on Monday morning. When she boarded the bus she was shocked to find only two passengers inside but still she continued her ride to school.
The bus conductor passed lewd comments before trying to molest her. He made some sexual expletives remarks. She bore the torture for half and hour but to avoid further harassment she opened the door of the bus and jumped off.
She along with her parents lodged a complaint with the police who identified the bus conductor as Ishwarbhai Parmer,49, and arrested him on Tuesday. He was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
The girl allegedly in her complaint stated that she was standing near the door as they were only two passengers in the bus but the conductor insisted her to sit down to which she completely denied. And when he started coming near to her she decided to jump from the bus.
‘‘The onlookers took her to hospital and after being discharged she filed complaint against the bus conductor based on the bus number that she had noted down’’, said in-charge police inspector A N Gadhvi of Kheralu police station. The girl belonged to Patiya village in Kheralu.
This is not the first time a girl was harassed in public transport, last year in April, a 16-year-old girl died on the spot in the horrific incident, which occurred near Gill village, ten kilometres from Moga district in Punjab. When she along with her mother jumped from the bus to escape their molesters on the bus. Her 38-year-old mother sustained serious injuries.
