A Mother in the name of ‘honour’ burnt a teenage girl alive on Wednesday for marrying a man of her own choice in Lahore’s Factory area. 17-year-old Zeenat had been in a relationship with a man named Hassan and she married him a week ago.
After girl’s mother got to know about her wedding, she brought her back home promising to marry her off to Hassan as per traditions and customs after some time but Instead of doing that, the mother, Parveen, ostensibly burned her daughter alive at her home.
“The girl’s mother has been detained and we have already launched an investigation into the incident and have started gathering evidence from the scene,” Factory Area police said.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and has sought a report from CCPO Lahore.
Honour killing incident has been increasing in this area and it is reported that it’s 4th case in past three months.
Zeenat’s husband Hasan is in shock, he told a local TV station Geo News that the pair had eloped themselves, but he had hesitantly allowed her to return to her family home after they promised they would hold a celebration and not harm her in any case. He said trusting them proved to be so dreadful for him as he lost his newlywed wife.
Hasan continued, “After two days, she called me and said that her family had gone back on their word and asked me to come get her, but I told her to wait for the promised eight days. Then, she was killed so dreadfully.”
The official police officer Mr. Ashraf told the media that, Zeenat’s Mother, Perveen and other family members had confessed to the crime and police has also seized the kerosene oil from the scene of the crime
