A domestic dispute over an unpaid cable TV bill turned fatal when a New York woman allegedly stabbed her ex-boyfriend to death.
34-year-old Chamia Johnson pleaded not guilty on Thursday to second-degree murder of her ex-boyfriend. She killed her 39-year-old ex- boyfriend, Antoine Mallory by stabbing him in the chest with a kitchen knife that she had bought by herself. She murdered her ex in his Niagara Falls home.
Antoine Mallory, who is the father of Johnson’s four children, was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital but he was declared brought dead by the medical authorities at the hospital.
Prosecutors said Mallory was supposedly expected to pay Johnson’s cable bill, which she went to his home to demand the same.
“She went there to complain about the cable bill not being paid since few months and when she didn’t get a response from him, she stabbed him in the chest in a fit of rage,” Deputy District Attorney Doreen Hoffmann said at Johnson’s Thursday court appearance.
Hoffmann added: “His cable bill was paid, because, in the crime scene photos, the TV is on. She threw the weapon outside after killing him and fled the scene out of fear.
It was until the next when she arrived at the police station to confess to the crime and police took her into custody.
State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. ordered Johnson held without bail, in part because of a bench warrant issued for her in connection with a 2005 disorderly conduct violation that had been reduced from a criminal impersonation charge.
Johnson is expected back in court for a pretrial conference on June 9, with a tentative trial date set for Sept. 19.
“She wishes to profess her innocence and go on trial on the same matter,” Assistant Public Defender Michael E. Benedict said.
